Tamara Slavinska is an American citizen living in Texas but she was born and educated in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev. Kiev is more than 2,000 years old and is the mother of Orthodox Christianity.
She was born in and lived for 35 years in the territory of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra monastery, on the banks of the Dnipr River. The forest park, the ringing of the monastery bells, and the singing birds inspired her to draw from childhood. She began attending an art studio as a teen-ager, graduated from high school and studied architecture in college. She graduated after three years and studied civil engineering for six years at a university. After graduating, she worked as an architect and civil engineer while continuing to sketch and to paint in watercolor and oils after hours.
